nice game, made me rage a lot, especially since my mouse is on its last legs and sometimes double clicks for no reason. i guess that's just playing on hard mode lol! i like the celeste style dashing too much to rage quit though, the movement felt great and addictive.

only bugs i noticed were 1. if you click while the game is loading it will crash and 2. it didn't upload my scores for level 5 after i beat it.

awesome game, really charming, especially the ending!

zzox responds:

thank you for playing and the bug report! I think NG servers may have went down for a minute but I will look into that.

Also you must be pretty good because you beat my times and I've been playing these levels a ton!

Only goobers dual boot shrimp os. You should run it as your daily driver

awesome game!!! the art and music are beautiful and the puzzles are challenging and satisfying.

i do agree with mindchamber that i don't think the recharging mechanic serves this game very well, it feels fairly unnecessary and not really in line with the measured thinking required to solve the puzzles.

additionally the physics can be a bit of a pain to work with at times, having to fiddle with cables can get annoying when they don't do what you want, plus the issue occassionally getting stuck between two moving platforms on the last level.

other than those criticisms though, this is a tight little piece of a game with a great atmosphere and fun ideas, and i enjoyed it a lot!

STANNco responds:

tried to meet the criticisms in new update, fixed bugs and changed the charging thing a bit (:

This is the game of the year, sorry all the other games. This is the most graphics video game, it's the most gameplay video game, and did I even mention the graphics? This game is so good that it's not even a stretch to compare it to titans like Bubsy 3D (which is my personal favorite game of all time).

The idea for this game reminds me of a few months ago when I was sitting on the couch playing John Madden Football for Sega Genesis (which if you didn't know is my favorite game of all time) when I thought, "Madden is great, but I wish it had more Red Ball Character Running Through Vibrant Levels With Cheery Music In Pursuit Of Money." This game didn't scratch that itch at all, but I just put it out there in case someone reading wants to make that.

Some things I'd improve:
- It's called Money Man but you don't play as the money??? I think this might legally be false advertising
- There was this weird bug where I got a call from my mom in real life saying "please stop playing that game it's spreading a virus onto the network". Hopefully that's patched in the next release, it really made me lose focus.
- The city building gameplay pales in comparison to that of Sim City on SNES, which came out over 30 years ago. Like come on bro, it doesn't even have fire departments, how are you gonna have a city without a fire department?? (Sorry for the harsh comparison, Sim City is just my favorite game of all time so I'm very defensive about it)

Of course all of those were really minor and didn't affect my overall enjoyment of the game in any way. With all that in mind, I've decided that my final score is a 0/5. Sorry everyone who worked on this game, do better next time

This was pretty nice and fun, especially for a first game. I played it all the way through to the end. I think the difficulty picked up pretty nicely and the platforming was challenging enough to keep me engaged the whole way through.

A couple things I think could be improved:
Music and sound effects would help a lot in making the game feel more alive.

I didn't actually realize that dashes worked in the air until I had to use it in a narrow hallway, which could be a me issue but I felt it was worth mentioning. (Also, I think Z and Right Shift might be a more comfortable control than 1 and 9 for a lot of people.)

The most important one for me: The character drops like a stone if you're not holding the jump button. Towards the end it became less of an issue as I held my jumps, but at the beginning it was really disorienting. There was also an instance where I was getting an apple from a ledge and I couldn't see below me, but the character dropped so fast that I couldn't even begin to correct the movement in time.

But overall I think you did a good job with this and I think you have a lot of potential. Hope this review helped!

Mizunil responds:

I don't plan on updating this anymore, but this information has 100% definitely helped out! For my next future project, I'll make sure to watch out for the 'falling physics' more and optimize the key controls (as well as avoid the other issues).

Thank you for the review, feedback is always appreciated! c:

I'd like to like this game, but pretty quickly the watermelon enemies start spewing so many bullets that it makes the entire browser tab completely unusable.

finne432 responds:

it's lagging your tab? sorry about that, I'll see what I can do to reduce lag. maybe I can add options to turn off extra effects and things to get it running smoother.

This is a very cool idea! Very satisfying to pull off enemy kills and combinations, and the mechanics were very unique and were used well. The difficulty increased very nicely as the game went along, and it has a very charming art style with simple but interesting gameplay. I also enjoyed the boss fight at the end that managed to bring out the action part of the game a lot more while still keeping the puzzle elements. I also haven't tried the community levels/level editor, but you automatically get high praise just for including that.

Some criticism: I found that some of the solutions of the earlier levels could kind of be figured out by looking at the way they connected instead of the actual contents of the tiles. The tutorials were a bit vague and also hard to make out for me because they were drawn over the map. Also it says you can zoom in using scroll wheel in the crawl phase, but I feel like it was needed more in the swap phase, since I found the camera to be a lot more zoomed out there.

Overall very cool game, it would be awesome to see it continued in the future!

pixelized-studio responds:

Hey!
Thank's a lot for the review, I'm super happy to have so many details here!

I must say your advice is great on those subject, I was not sure about the open paths making the levels too simple, maybe I was just afraid some levels would be too hard by giving to much possibilities (or afraid a player might find another easier solution x) ).
I'll definitely look out the issue regarding the poor tutorial I made & the zooming issue in a future release!

Cheers!

Note: I originally rated this a 2.5 because the web version didn't work, but as promised I've bumped up the score now that it's fixed.

The controls certainly took some getting used to, and it's pretty disorienting at first trying to fly around while going so fast. The fact that the gun recharges when touching a wall or the underside of a platform also meant that I could cheese some levels like Tree Stumped really easily. That didn't diminish any of the fun for me personally actually, I love the feeling that I've outsmarted the game.

I liked the level design and aesthetic that's reminiscent of Monkey Ball. It made it feel familiar to me, but it was used well with the flight controls, though some of the precision platforming was a bit frustrating. I could just be mad cuz bad though. The soundtrack was good, and the designs of the characters were really cool.

Overall I enjoyed the concept and gameplay and I'll probably play through the rest at some point, because I want to see where the story goes.

maxjk0 responds:

Thanks again for the detailed response, and I am proud to announce that I got it to work!

its a little laggy, I need to do some optimization, but the game now works in browser! (tested on google chrome)

I hate rating this so low because I love the way it brings in ideas from the newer Mario games into the SMB1 format, especially since it's made in Scratch, but it is just so unbearably laggy. I don't know if just a me issue, but it makes the game really hard to play. Also, I got stuck in 1-2 because the on-off blocks didn't let me progress after I died. My regards to the author though, this is an impressive piece of work. (I'm also taking your word that this was uploaded with permission.)

DragonScalez responds:

When you say laggy, do you mean laggy, or buggy? It’s not very laggy, it runs at a pretty consistent frame rate. Sure, there are a few bugs but the next update is primarily focused on fixing the engine and bugs.

At first I was confused as to how the alternating bombs would add anything to the gameplay, but then I got to the later levels. It makes a very interesting puzzle as to how to get rid of your black bombs in some situations. Landing jumps with the pink bombs is extremely satisfying. I haven't actually finished the game yet, but I'm sure going to try, because wow this game is fun to play. Also respect for writing it all in vanilla JS.

But let's be honest, the real reason I'm rating 5 is because the pirate does a dab when you throw a bomb in the direction opposite of where you're facing.

saantonandre responds:

Actually laughed, I've never seen the backward bomb that way, also thanks a lot for your kind words :)

i'm just chilling with the guac from my chip hat
